Saguaro Park Cactus Loop...   Ride with GPS map

This ride will be two laps of the park. The first will be a sunset loop, and the second will be a moonlight loop. Assuming good weather it should be a memorable experience. Sunset will be at 7:19pm so we will start our ride at 7:00pm from the ramada just inside the park. That way we can catch the setting sun at one of the overlooks along the opening swoop section of the loop. After the the sun has set we will continue at a leisurely pace back to the start. By the time we get there we should be under moonlight for the second loop.

    Parking:

There is space for about 6 vehicles to park off the side of the road at https://tinyurl.com/3xm88pxt. There may also be parking at Saguaro Corners. If you happen to get to the park and the main gates are open, DO NOT PARK INSIDE THE GATES. Your car may be stuck there overnight.

    Logistics:

The main gate to the park will be closed. Entry into the park is on a walking path just north of the main entry. There will not be anyone checking for passes, but we will likely see a ranger while we are riding so be sure to have a pass in case they ask.

    Lighting:

A front light and a rear light or reflector are required in the park at night. Ideally, your headlights should offer a choice of brightness. Once our eyes adjust to the darkness, very little additional light beyond moonlight will be required. Please do not use flashing taillights. They will be blinding to any riders behind you. If your taillight has a lowlight setting you can use it. Otherwise just turn it off.

    The ride:

This will be a zen ride. Things look different at night, and there will likely be more wildlife activity than in the daytime. Slow down and allow yourself time to take in the wonders of the desert under a full moon.
